DNA Vault
DNA Vault is designed for the long term preservation and storage of human DNA. DNA
Vault uses SampleMatrix, a technology that mimics the natural principles of
anhydrobiosis, which means “life without water”. Anhydrobiosis is a biological process
that enables multicellular organisms to survive in a dry state for periods over 100
years. During extended periods of desiccation, proteins, DNA and cellular systems are
protected and can be revived by rehydration. The technology in DNA Vault forms a
protective seal around DNA as it dries. DNA preserved with the DNA Vault technology
can be safely stored for extended periods of time at room temperature. Accelerated
ageing studies indicate that DNA treated with this process is stable for at least 11 years
and probably significantly longer.
When you purchase the DNA Vault, we will ship you a DNA Collection Kit. Collecting
DNA is a simple and painless process. All you need to do is swab the inside of your
cheeks with the sterile swabs provided in the kit. You will then return your swabs to the
laboratory. Your DNA will be extracted from the swabs and placed into a special tube
for long term storage at room temperature. This tube will be returned to you inside a
DNA Vault tin, so that you may store your DNA anywhere you wish, at home, in a safety
deposit box, wherever!
