Y STR
Y STR analysis is used for a variety of applications, from ancestral
genealogy to missing persons and the forensic identification of male
DNA from sexual assault cases.
Variability allows discrimination among individuals in a population,
which is useful for identification in forensic, paternity and ancestral
studies. The regions analyzed include the core set of nine loci defined
as the European Minimal Haplotype and the two loci recommended by
the Scientific Working Group on DNA Analysis Methods (SWGDAM). Six
additional highly polymorphic loci are also tested, significantly
increasing the discrimination capacity of haplotype analysis
genealogy to missing persons and the forensic identification of male
DNA from sexual assault cases.
